Let’s get fresh fruit and vegetable snacks back every day!

Why I am a Champion for this Cause

I am very passionate about the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Snack Program!  I served as the first Program Manager for three years, and have returned recently to help the FFVSP serve delicious fruit and vegetable snacks to students at BJM.

I enjoy working at BJM and find the community to be enthusiastic and adventurous partners in the promotion of fruit and vegetables.  I remember the first time we served local, organic fennel everyone thought it looked funny.  But most students were willing to give it a try, and enjoyed the flavor with oranges.  I am proud of the open minded and positive spirit at BJM around healthy produce.

I also love working with local farmers and gardeners to find snacks that are affordable as well as local and organic when possible.  Their hard work and generosity is inspiring.

The FFVSP is a beautiful collaboration of many people pitching in; volunteers from colleges and senior centers as well as parents, friends of all ages, teachers, administrators, kids, foundations, food justice organizations, farmers, and gardeners.

Parents, teachers, and students alike have told me how much they miss having the program every day.  I am committed to doing all I can to try to help bring it back.  My vision is that if people in the community contribute only what they can, with high participation, the number of people who support this program will come together, empowered to make a real difference.
